Unlocking the Ability to Rescue Magical Beasts
Before you can capture a Unicorn, you must progress through the main storyline until you unlock the Nab-Sack feature. This tool becomes available after completing the main quest titled The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom, hosted by Deek in the Room of Requirement. Completing this quest grants you access to beast rescue mechanics and opens up your first Vivarium space.
Additionally, you should complete the side quest titled The Unique Unicorn, which is given by Betty Bugbrooke in Hogsmeade. This quest directly introduces you to the concept of rescuing a Unicorn and provides a clear marker leading straight to their primary habitat.
Where to Find Unicorn Locations in Hogwarts Legacy
Unicorns do not roam freely across the entire open world and instead inhabit a single specific beast den on the map. You can find the Unicorn Den located deep inside the Forbidden Forest, just north-south of the Upper Hogsfield Fast Travel point. Teleporting to Upper Hogsfield and heading directly south into the woods is usually the fastest route.
Because the den is inhabited by only one Unicorn at a time, you will need to revisit the location after waiting or fast traveling if you intend to rescue more than one. Patience is key, as the single spawning restriction makes gathering multiple Unicorns a time-consuming task.
Effective Spell Combinations for Capturing a Unicorn
Capturing a Unicorn is significantly more challenging than catching smaller beasts like Puffskeins or Jobberknolls because the capture meter requires six successful button prompts.
